Promoting Inclusive Society
Sunny beaches, ancient culture, astonishing architecture, beautiful nature, and do not forget the most important part - the most delicious pasta. That is Sicily, the place we were honored to visit, and the island that facilitated our Erasmus+ Youth Exchange. To be specific - it was the city of Agrigento (do not forget to pronounce it with an Italian accent) in which our project took place. Agrigento is one of the oldest and most beautiful cities in Sicily, which is known for its ancient temples and unique atmosphere.
We had the opportunity to meet and get to know amazing young people from Italy, Greece, Spain, Romania and Bulgaria. The theme of our project was “Promoting Inclusive Society”, so during the eight days spent there, we tried our best to understand the topic of inclusion and promote it. Various workshops, debates, group projects and team activities helped us accomplish our goals. Very interesting and educational was the discussion with the refugees in Agrigento, who shared with us their experiences and made us realize how much different our situations (as European citizens) are.
One distinctive thing about this project was the degree to which we engaged with the local community, meaning that we actually went out to the streets and talked to a lot of people. We even recorded some of our activities and uploaded them to an internet page we created: http://proinclusion.tilda.ws/, so that the whole world can see what we were doing and what every one of us can do to help our country be a better place for everyone.
It was the most wonderful experience and we are truly grateful for the fact that we have been able to participate. Not only did we learn a lot of things and helped others enrich their knowledge about inclusion, we have also had tons of fun! We hope that we will be able to go to another project and experience these incredible things at least one more time.
Ciao!
