Overcoming Fear of Failure through Digital Storytelling and Comics Design: Our Experience in Born, Germany
Last week, we had the opportunity to come together in Born, Germany, for the Overcoming Fear of Failure through Digital Storytelling and Comics Design project’s Learning, Training, and Teaching Activity (LTTA). As partners from Slovenia, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Austria and Germany, we spent the week collaborating, creating, and growing both individually and as a team.
A Week of Creativity and Growth
Throughout the week, we participated in hands-on activities designed to tackle a challenge that resonates with so many young people: fear of failure. Using digital storytelling and comics design, we explored innovative ways to help youth express themselves, build empathy, and strengthen their resilience.
These methods weren’t just tools we were testing; they became part of our experience. We reflected on our own journeys, shared our stories, and discovered how creativity can open doors to self-awareness and confidence.
Why This Work Matters to Us
We’ve all encountered fear of failure, and we know how much it can hold people back—especially young people trying to navigate academic, professional, and personal pressures. Across Europe, many youth face the fear of rejection, underperformance, or not meeting societal expectations.
Through this project, we want to change that narrative. Digital storytelling allowed participants to open up and share their experiences in a safe and supportive space. Comics design brought in a playful element, turning fears into opportunities for growth and self-expression. Witnessing how these activities empowered participants reminded us why this work is so important.
Building Trust, Building Our Team
One of the most rewarding parts of the week was how much we grew together as a team. Coming from different countries, we didn’t just collaborate on the tools we were developing—we built trust and understanding. These activities strengthened not only our methods but also our connection as partners.
That sense of unity is what makes this project so meaningful. Together, we’re ensuring that the work we do will have a lasting impact, not just for the youth we aim to support but for each of us as well.
Why It’s Worth It
This project is about more than overcoming fear—it’s about equipping young people with the tools to see failure as a step toward success. It’s about fostering adaptability, creativity, and confidence to embrace and grow from challenges.
We feel a deeper sense of purpose when we reflect on our time in Born. Initiatives like this remind us how powerful collaboration and innovation can be in creating a brighter future.
We’re excited to continue refining these tools and can’t wait to see their impact on young people across Europe. Born was just the beginning, and we’re grateful to be on this journey together.
