TC Inner Peace, Outer Impact

From July 21 to 27, 2025, we had the chance to take part in a training course in Pamporovo, Bulgaria, focused on mental health and emotional resilience in youth work. The project, Inner Peace, Outer Impact, brought together youth workers and volunteers from Slovakia, Bulgaria, Turkey, Spain, Cyprus, Italy, Lithuania, and Romania. For a week, we transformed a mountain hotel in the Rhodopi Mountains into a space for deep learning, nature walks, and intercultural connection.

Although I normally focus on a different field, this training gave me a meaningful opportunity to explore mental health, which is something increasingly relevant not just in youth work, but in all areas of life. Led by experienced psychologist Emilia Crushcov, we went through intense yet insightful sessions on stress, trauma, healthy boundaries, coping technique, and mental health disorders. Some parts of the training were technical, others deeply reflective. We explored practical tools like mindfulness, breathing techniques, and forest bathing, but also had honest conversations about emotional burnout and how to support young people from disadvantaged backgrounds. I especially appreciated how the project was linked to each individual which in the end can make a bigger „outer impact“.

One of the most valuable parts of the week was simply learning from each other. Whether it was getting to know each other, hiking up to Snezhanka Tower, or hosting intercultural evenings, the informal moments helped build trust and friendship across borders. It reminded me how much we can learn just by being present with one another. Projects like this don’t just teach hard skills, they also grow your empathy, adaptability, and ability to work in diverse teams. I’m really grateful we got to be part of it, and we’ll be taking many of these lessons into both our work and everyday life.
