Unity for Peace Training Course
The project “Unity for peace and for a Better Future” took place from 3.12 to 12.12 near the city of Larnaca. It was mainly focused on overcoming differences between cultures and the effort to find compromise and peace through understanding and healthy communication with the other side. It was in the form of interesting presentations, workshops and discussions, and as an authentic example we were shown the effort to find an agreement in polarized Cyprus.
The amazing organizers arranged interesting activities for us, where we learned new ways of communication, we overcame stereotypes about our countries and cultures, we learned cooperation through creating posters and visited the capital Nicosia, where in our free time we could go to the occupied side and compare how the world looks like, when it works on different principles.
In our free time, we swam in the sea, which was only a few dozen meters from our accommodation, played board games and danced at our disco. Every evening there were fascinating intercultural nights where we had the chance to get to know and share our cultures, taste typical food and try traditional dances
This project showed me how important it is to be able to communicate openly and to listen to other perspectives, then how easily conflicts can arise but also how they can be resolved or prevented. The whole project went without any complications and the organizers from Youth Enaal Cyprus were very friendly, reliable and helpful.
We ended the project with a difficult farewell to new friends and with many wonderful memories.
