Counter Radica'lab in Morroco
Counter Radica'lab is over!
From 18th June to 26th June, the team of 5 Slovak participants had an incredible chance to spend time in Marrakech, Morocco on a youth exchange organized by Coconutwork and funded through Erasmus+
Participants from 7 different countries (Morocco , Slovakia , Turkey , Romania , Poland , Egypt and France ) gathered to discuss radicalisation and extremism. Through a number of workshops, we discovered major causes of radicalisation and we prepared theatre performances to act them out using the method of Theater of the Oppressed.
We prepared presentations that mapped national realities and Slovak perspectives on radicalisation. We also talked about the concept of identity layers, discussed how media shape our perception of reality and we concluded with the creation of digital campaigns to mitigate the causes of extremism.
In our free time, we had a chance to discover Marrakech and its red houses, markets and amazing food. We even enjoyed one completely free day during which we went to the seaside city of Essaouira.
Talking about radicalization hits completely differently in this setting and with participants from such various backgrounds. We engaged in extremely interesting conversations about religion, wars, poverty, injustice, future dreams and privilege. Moreover, we had a lot of fun together!
We would truly like to thank Youthfully Yours SK for a chance to experience this and Coconutwork for organizing this project
If you are still thinking about whether applying to the Erasmus project is something for you, do not hesitate, step out of your comfort zone and do it! We promise that you will not regret it.
