In the period from 21st to 27th September 2025, the Slovak team took part in the Youth Exchange – Citizen Journalism project, which was held in Varna, Bulgaria. The event brought together young participants from Slovakia, Romania, Serbia, and Bulgaria, all united by a common goal – to develop their skills in civic journalism, critical thinking, and active citizenship.
Throughout the week, we took part in a variety of interactive workshops that focused on improving our abilities in public speaking, interviewing, teamwork, and working with information. We learned how to identify reliable sources, how to ask the right questions, and how to tell authentic stories that reflect the real challenges of our communities. One of the most memorable moments was the outdoor activity, during which we interviewed local residents of Varna about issues that concern them most — from environmental topics to social problems. These conversations taught us how to approach people, listen actively, and communicate with empathy and respect.
In addition to the educational part, the program also offered a rich social and cultural dimension. Each country prepared a cultural evening, where participants could present their traditions, national dishes, and dances, which created a warm and friendly atmosphere. We also enjoyed excursions around the city of Varna, relaxing moments by the Black Sea, and fun activities such as beach volleyball, creative workshops, and social games that helped us strengthen our team spirit and make new friendships across borders.
By the end of the exchange, we had not only gained valuable knowledge and practical experience in citizen journalism, but also improved our communication skills, creativity, and self-confidence. The project gave us a deeper understanding of how important it is to stay informed, to think critically, and to be active members of our society. Most importantly, it created unforgettable memories and lasting connections among young people from different cultures who share the same desire to make a positive change in the world.
