Play for Media Literacy

Project Organiser: Alternativi International

The training course will take place from the 10th to the 18th of November in Bansko, Bulgaria.

Overall goal: The project will address the growing challenges of misinformation, disinformation, fake news, and conspiracy theories by fostering digital media literacy and critical thinking through educational board games. By turning complex issues into playful and collaborative learning experiences, the project will equip young people and educators with the skills to question sources, detect manipulation, and responsibly navigate tomorrow’s information landscape. Co-creating and playing board games will make the fight against false information engaging, creative, and impactful, and will help participants become more resilient, informed, and active digital citizens

Project objectives:

    • Strengthen Media and Digital Literacy – Equip young people and educators with the skills to critically analyze, evaluate, and use digital information.

    • Combat Misinformation and Disinformation – Raise awareness about fake news, conspiracy theories, and manipulation techniques to build resilience against them.

    • Promote Critical Thinking and Active Citizenship – Encourage questioning, fact-checking, and responsible participation in democratic societies.

    • Use Board Games as Educational Tools – Develop and test innovative, interactive board games that make learning about information disorders engaging and accessible.

    • Foster International Cooperation and Inclusion – Connect participants from different countries and backgrounds to share perspectives, co-create solutions, and promote intercultural dialogue.

Number of participants: 2-3

Ideal Participant profile:

  • Currently involved in working with young people on a regular basis.

  • Combination of experienced and new youth workers interested in digital literacy and media education.

  • Socially engaged and motivated individuals.

  • Open to innovative and creative learning methods.

  • Ready to actively participate in all phases of the project.

  • Committed to implementing at least one follow-up activity.

  • Willing to contribute to dissemination efforts.

  • Able to communicate effectively in English.

  • Participants must be over 18 years old and not to be on their ESC volunteering service at the moment.

Important information:

Accommodation, food, materials, and travel costs (up to the maximum allowed amount) are covered.

Travel cost limits: 309€

Extremely important: Keep all travel receipts and tickets for reimbursement, as the participant must keep the travel document to and from the destination and hand it over / send it to the project organizer according their instructions.

Insurance: Travel insurance is NOT paid by the organizers or subsequently reimbursed. Each participant is obliged to take out health insurance, which is valid in Bulgaria.

  • Only purchase tickets after receiving written confirmation from the organizers.
  • All participants must attend all sessions and participate in dissemination activities afterwards.
