TC ULTRA
From April 28th to May 8th, we participated in the Erasmus+ project ULTRA: Update, Learning, Training, Reflection, Awareness, held in Litochoro Gritsa, Greece. The aim of this project was to introduce us to the world of podcasting, explore the technology behind it, and experience the immense joy of creating a live web radio broadcast.
During the workshops, we focused on practical topics such as audio editing, cutting, and the principles of sound branding. Our accommodation was located in an exceptional area. Extremely close to the sea, yet right at the foot of Mount Olympus.
We started our mornings with energizers, which helped us break the ice, get to know each other, and open up great conversations about our interests and various topics. During the day, we collaborated on group tasks, such as creating short, memorable jingles or songs, which were then presented in front of everyone. Each day was also complemented by a variety of traditional Greek dishes and desserts, bringing us one step closer to the local culture and people.
After the main sessions wrapped up, we spent our free time outdoors. The venue offered a garden where we could practice our football skills, but our favorite spot was the beach. There was a volleyball net right on the sand, where we enjoyed playing sports, taking walks along the shore, and listening to the waves and the natural sounds of Litochoro.
Our evenings were dedicated to reflection with our „learning buddies“ and project groups. Together, we shared feedback about the day, highlighted our favorite moments, and constructively discussed what could be improved. We also organized a „Secret Friend“ activity, where we anonymously surprised each other with sweet treats or kind notes. After dinner, we played board games, which brought us even closer. The group dynamic was amazing, and we worked incredibly well as a team.
The entire experience felt completely natural and unforced. The connections we made will remain in our memories forever. From endless dancing on the dance floor to the thrill of standing in front of a microphone and interviewing our new „colleagues“ live on the air.
The project allowed us to practice our communication skills and active listening. It was an excellent opportunity to step out of our comfort zones and overcome the fear of making mistakes, realizing that improvement comes with practice. This mindset naturally shaped how we worked together, instead of competing, we focused on cultivating a supportive environment where we could guide and assist those who were struggling with certain tasks, making the entire teamwork experience incredibly rewarding.
Ultimately, this experience was not just about Greece and podcasting. Despite being hosted in a Greek seaside town, the project brought together individuals from diverse backgrounds, creating a unique space where we could naturally immerse ourselves in each other’s traditions, languages, and stories.
This was also supported by the intercultural evening, which was divided into two nights, giving us the opportunity to learn more about the countries involved in the Erasmus+ project.
During the first evening, participants from Slovakia, Romania, Greece, and Croatia presented their countries. Each country brought traditional food, sweets, and, if possible, traditional drinks, which we all enjoyed later on. As Slovaks, we led a discussion about our traditional dishes that we weren’t able to bring. Our program continued with Slovak tongue twisters, such as „Strč prst skrz krk,“ which entertained both the participants and the project trainers. The task for the others was to read the tongue twisters correctly and then translate them. The participants from Romania showed us a short video about their country along with a quiz. The Greek and Croatian participants shared interesting facts about their culture, traditions, and daily life. Thanks to these presentations, we learned a lot of new and surprising information about each country.
The second intercultural evening belonged to the Italians, Spanish, and Polish people. Just like the first night, the project participants brought traditional snacks from their countries. The Italians introduced us to well-known Italian gestures through a fun competition where we had to guess their meanings. They also sang us a song they had created themselves, which made their presentation even more lively. Spanish team shared important and interesting information about Spain, while the Polish people sang a song and shared all the beauties of Poland. The evening was full of fun, music, and exploring other cultures.
Overall, the intercultural evenings were a great experience that helped us better understand different cultures, traditions, and customs, while spending quality time together.
