In last years the disappointment with politics, heavily widespread among the youth of Central Europe. The number of skeptics among young people in relation to politics is significant. According to the results of several public opinion polls, more than 80% of young people in V4 countries think that politicians don’t really care about them and politics needs new faces. The majority of Youth is convinced that “political parties are the same” and “youth don’t have the power to significantly influence political decisions”. Participation in public decisions is significantly lower in V4 countries than in western Europe.
The involvement in youth municipal councils, student councils, participation in political discussions or public assemblies is not considered as attractive among youngsters.
The initiative You(th) Decide! reacted to this un-pleasant situation with the aim to enhance youth civic engagement and to raise awareness about the importance of participation in civic life among youth from V4 countries, by mobilizing active youngsters and developing their sense of initiative. Tree local meetings developed simultaneously in 4 different communities Košice (SK), Břeclav (CZ), Ryglice (PL) and Törökszentmiklós (HU) provided local young people with personal experience on how important is their civic engagement and what impact it might cause.
